About Spark
Spark Consulting & Design is an independent, woman-owned planning and design practice based in the Portland and Vancouver metro area, led by Sita Walker.
Your Partner
Sita Walker, Principal/ Owner is a planner and architectural design consultant who has spent close to twenty years on both sides of the permit counter. She holds a professional Bachelor of Architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and a Master of City and Regional Planning, and her career began in fabrication shops working in wood and metal, which is where a lasting habit started: designing for how things are actually built.
Before founding Spark, she spent nearly a decade with the City of Portland. At the Bureau of Development Services she conducted development review and historic resource review for large mixed-use projects, and at the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability she contributed to long-range urban design. She later served as a planning manager at a private engineering and surveying firm. That mix of public-sector review and private-sector delivery is the core of how Spark works: someone who has written the code, reviewed the plans, and drawn the buildings can design a home that is both well-made and ready to clear permitting.
That history is also why Spark works the way it does, in partnership rather than isolation. Sita designs alongside the builders and tradespeople who know what a plan costs to construct, the city staff who have to review it, and the homeowners and neighbors who will live with it every day. Bringing those voices in early, before decisions are locked, is what keeps a home buildable, affordable, and welcome on its street.
That combination is what Spark brings to the homes that need it most. Through SparkADU, Sita designs pre-approved and pattern plans for accessory dwellings and small homes, built so that good design, accessibility, and efficiency are within reach for regular homeowners and for the communities working to expand housing. Whether the client is a city, a developer, or a family with a backyard, the standard is the same: homes designed to live in and grow in, made to last.
